BENSON, N.C. (March 31, 2025) – The Red Line Oil PDRA Drag Racing Series is primed for its biggest season yet in its 11-season history, with large car counts, increased event and championship payouts, and fierce competition across the series’ professional, sportsman, and Jr. Dragster categories. It all starts this weekend at the Summit Racing Equipment East Coast Nationals presented by FuelTech, April 2-5, at GALOT Motorsports Park. It’s the first of eight national events for the drivers and teams competing for nearly $200,000 in PDRA world championship prizes.
“With support from partners like Red Line Oil, we increased our championship payouts by more than $100,000,” said Tyler Crossnoe, series director, PDRA. “The racers in our headlining Switzer Dynamics Pro Nitrous and WS Construction Pro Boost presented by P2 Contracting and Ty-Drive will get to compete for a $25,000 championship bonus this season. Those championship payouts combined with $10,000-to-win and $25,000 per event in total payouts for both of our Pro Modified classes have attracted some of the world’s best Pro Mod drivers and teams. We’re expecting big turnouts for the East Coast Nationals, and we could see record fields come together by the time the 16-car fields are set on Friday night.”
Pro Nitrous will see yet another boost to the rewards for the East Coast Nationals winner, as Pat Musi Racing Engines has doubled the winner’s share to $20,000 through the PDRA’s new Power Purse program. Located in Mooresville, North Carolina, Pat Musi Racing Engines focuses on nitrous-assisted engines for racers in numerous classes and forms of drag racing. Musi’s Pro Nitrous customers include reigning world champion Fredy Scriba, three-time world champion Tommy Franklin, and Franklin’s daughter, two-time Pro 632 world champion Amber Denton, who will make her Pro Nitrous debut at the East Coast Nationals.
“We’ve supported this class since the very beginning whether through the series, racing ourselves, or through our customers,” Musi said. “I love to put nitrous against nitrous on a level playing field and that’s what we get to do at the PDRA. It will be exciting to watch everyone battle to qualify and then compete with $20,000 on the line to kick-start the 2025 season. You know our all of Musi Racing Engines will be ready to go after it and we hope one of our customers takes it home.”
The ultra-competitive Pro Boost division will see one of its largest fields of the season as drivers with screw-blown, roots-blown, centrifugally supercharged, and turbocharged Pro Mods chase the $10,000 prize. Two-time and reigning world champion Jason Harris will attempt to win a third consecutive title – and a series-record fifth overall title. He’ll take on a stacked field that includes newly crowned World Series of Pro Mod (WSOPM) champion Steve King, 2024 championship runner-up Kurt Steding, and second-generation wheelman Ty Tutterow, who’s looking to join his father, Todd “King Tut” Tutterow, as a Pro Boost champion.
The wild and unpredictable Liberty’s Gears Pro Street presented by Menscer Motorsports class is back for its fifth world championship season. Fresh off a win in the Pro 10.5 Challenge at the WSOPM, reigning world champion Ethan Steding is ready to defend his title against a growing list of competitors. That list includes class E.T. record holder Brian Weddle, young gun Joel Wensley Jr., who’s eager to get his first win, and two-time world champion Tim Essick.
AED Competition Fuel Systems Extreme Pro Stock features naturally aspirated, clutch-equipped machines capable of passes in the low 4-second range with the occasional dip into the 3-second zone. Two-time and reigning world champion Chris Powers leads the charge into the East Coast Nationals. He also led an effort to round up class sponsors for each event this season. Jon Kaase Racing Engines is the presenting class sponsor for the season opener. Two-time world champion Johnny Pluchino and 2023 world champion Alan Drinkwater, both Kaase customers, are also on the entry list for the East Coast Nationals.
PTC Converters Pro 632 will likely see a new world champion emerge, as two-time and reigning world champion Amber Denton is set to make her Pro Nitrous debut at GALOT. Lexi Tanner, winner of last year’s Brian Olson Memorial World Finals, is hoping the ride the momentum she started late last season into a championship bid. Other contenders expected to compete include Andy House, Doug Nicholl, and Jason Ventura.
Dan Whetstine is eager to defend his PDRA Super Street presented by Brian’s Heating & Cooling world championship in his ProCharger-boosted Mustang, fending off challengers like Derek Mota and his turbocharged ride and young gun Connor McGee in his nitrous-assisted hot rod. With small tires and big horsepower, Super Street is quickly expanding in terms of both racers and fans.
Drag 965 Pro Extreme Motorcycle will add a two-wheeled element to the East Coast Nationals lineup. Brunson Grothus is the reigning world champion, joining past world champions like Chris Garner-Jones and Eric McKinney, who’ve both won multiple titles.
Along with the PDRA’s professional classes, the East Coast Nationals will feature high-stakes sportsman racing in MagnaFuel Elite Top Sportsman presented by PAR Racing Engines, Laris Motorsports Insurance Elite Top Dragster presented by Greenbrier Excavating & Paving, MagnaFuel Top Sportsman, and Laris Motorsports Insurance Top Dragster presented by Derrick Wolfe Trucking. Local bracket racers will also take part in the event through Edelbrock Bracket Bash presented by COMP Cams.
The PDRA’s Jr. Dragster classes, home to the rising stars of the all-eighth-mile drag racing series, will fight for East Coast Nationals victories in PDRA Pro Jr. Dragster presented by Philadelphia Racing Products and Classic Graphix Top Jr. Dragster presented by Philadelphia Racing Products.
East Coast Nationals participants will have the opportunity to test on Wednesday afternoon, as well as Thursday morning. Due to high anticipated car counts, qualifying will kick off early with Top Sportsman on Thursday at 1:45 p.m. and Top Dragster at 3 p.m. Pros will start with Pro Nitrous at 4:45 p.m. Friday’s qualifying schedule starts with the Jr. Dragster classes at 9 a.m. Pro sessions are set for 12:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. Jr. Dragsters will get a final qualifying session Saturday morning at 9 a.m., followed by sportsman eliminations. Pro eliminations will begin at noon.
